3 Signs That Your Divorce Might Not Be Easy

Couples -- even married ones -- split up all the time. In some cases, divorces go rather smoothly; a couple might decide that they no longer want to be together for one reason or another, then they work with attorneys or a mediator to peacefully split. In many other situations, however, divorces can be knock-down, drag-out battles that don't go easily for anyone who is involved. These are a few signs that your divorce might not be easy.

1. Your Spouse Doesn't Want to Split Up

In some situations, both parties agree that splitting up and going their separate ways is better for everyone who is involved. If you want a divorce but your spouse does not, however, this can make things a whole lot more difficult. You might find that your spouse does not cooperate with you throughout the process or that he or she wants to try alternative methods instead, such as divorce counseling. If you are sure that you want to leave your spouse, even if he or she does not agree, then your lawyer can assist you in speeding things along.

2. There are Children Involved

Any relationship that involves children can instantly become more complicated. When you get a divorce in a household in which children are involved, you have to worry about things like child custody and child support. Not only do you have to worry about things being harder in a legal sense, but you also have to worry about how the kids will be affected by the situation.

3. There are a Lot of Assets Involved

If you and your spouse have a lot of cash or multiple properties, or if you otherwise have a lot of assets, splitting everything up can be challenging. Things can be especially challenging if one spouse earns more of an income than the other or if one spouse brought more of the assets into the marriage. Fortunately, though, your lawyer can work with you to help ensure that you get what you are entitled to.

Divorce can be challenging and hard on anyone, but in some situations, it can be worse than in others. If any of these three things apply to your situation, there is a good chance that your divorce might be a bit more difficult than you think. Luckily, if you work with a good divorce lawyer, you can get the legal representation and help that you need during this difficult time.
